Friendsgiving Without the Kitchen Shift

Friendsgiving Without the Kitchen Shift

Friendsgiving has a way of turning one person into the group’s chef, bartender, furniture mover and closing crew.

You invited everyone because you wanted to spend time with them. Somehow you are checking the oven while the good conversation happens in another room.

If you are planning Friendsgiving in Sacramento, consider a different arrangement: bring your people to Birdies in West Sacramento. A full restaurant, cocktail bar and indoor golf give the gathering somewhere to go—and give the person organizing it a chance to enjoy it.

Why host Friendsgiving at a venue?

The best reason to host away from home is simple: you get to join in. You can stay for the story, finish the conversation and be there when everyone decides the next round of golf needs teams.

It is also a kinder plan for the friend whose home always becomes the default. Choosing a venue lets the group share the occasion without quietly volunteering someone’s kitchen and entire weekend.

Add optional indoor golf to your gathering

Some friends want to sit and catch up. Others relax faster when there is something to do. Indoor golf gives the night a shared activity without requiring everyone to be a regular golfer.

Make the golf optional, take turns or ask about a simple group format. The point is to create a few moments everyone can talk about afterward—not to turn Friendsgiving into an audition for someone’s weekend foursome.

Plan food for your Friendsgiving group

There is no need to invent a turkey menu to make the night feel like Friendsgiving. The people are the tradition. Choose a food plan that suits your group, leaves room for conversation and gives everyone something to look forward to.

Birdies has a full restaurant. Browse the current menus for an idea of the kitchen, then discuss event food arrangements and dietary needs with the team. Everyday menu prices are not a private-event quote; confirm selections, service and costs in your proposal.

Choose a drink arrangement before guests arrive

The bar gives the gathering another reason to linger. Talk through the drink arrangement in advance so the host is not explaining an improvised plan to every new arrival.

Ask what can work for your mix of guests, including people who are not drinking alcohol. A good group plan makes the choices clear before the night begins.

Three decisions to make before your event inquiry

  1. When? Share your preferred date, a backup and your ideal start time. Friendsgiving does not have to compete with everyone’s Thanksgiving plans.
  2. How many? Give a realistic guest count and tell the team whether you want one close gathering or a larger party.
  3. What kind of night? Food and conversation, a little golf, or a more structured celebration? Say what matters most.

Then ask about the right space, food and drink plan, any golf time, accessibility needs, payment details and the terms for confirming the booking. Birdies accommodates events from 10 to 300 people, but that range spans different arrangements. Your proposal should spell out what is reserved for your group.

Where is Birdies?

You will find Birdies at 805 Riverfront Street in West Sacramento, across from Sutter Health Park. Check What’s On and confirm the timing of your event with the team. Approved regular Friday hours are 4–11pm; Sunday is 10am–8pm. Private-event availability is confirmed separately.

Friendsgiving planning questions

Can we come if some friends do not play golf?

Yes. Birdies combines a restaurant and bar with indoor golf. Tell the events team whether golf is central to the gathering, optional or something you want to leave out.

Is there a special Friendsgiving package or Thanksgiving dinner?

This article proposes a private-group occasion. It does not announce a special menu, package or Thanksgiving Day opening. Ask the team about available dates and a proposal for your group.

How do we start?
